BIOLOGICAL PEST CONTROL IN AUSTRALASIA

(Contacts)

There has been considerable biological control activity in Australia, New Zealand and portions of Indonesia by governmental agencies. The pests subjected to biological control in Indonesia, northern Australia and New Guinea were exclusively tropical, attacking primarily oil and coconut palms, rubber and cocoa trees and rice, although there has also been some effort against scale insects on citrus. In Australia and New Zealand both tropical and temperate zone pests have been subjected to biological control, some with considerable success. Because of climatic and pest similarities between Australia western North America, there were several cooperative projects between those areas.
